About
Us
Our Story
Saint Timothy's held its first worship
service on Sunday, December 4, 1994. A core group of about 20 people,
most of them from Christ United Methodist Church in Greensboro,
spent months planning, dreaming and praying for the birth of a new
church in one of the most rapidly growing areas in the Triad. Since
then we have grown in numbers, in spiritual depth, and in our outreach
to those in need.
Our Mission
To expand our circle of Christian
disciples, provide opportunities for growth in personal faith, nurture
a shared ministry where all are welcomed in safety and love, and
answer God's call to servanthood in the world.
Our Ministry
Discipleship
At Saint Timothy's we believe that the Christian life is a journey,
a pilgrimage shared by Jesus and his followers. We believe that
we are called to make disciples by welcoming others, just as they
are, to join us on this exciting journey.
Spiritual Formation
We recognize that each of us is in a different place along our spiritual
journey. Therefore, Saint Timothy's is committed to offering a variety
of challenging, inspirational and meaningful opportunities for growth
in personal faith through:
- Worship
- Holy Communion (celebrated the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month)
- Encouraging a life of prayer and study
- Comprehensive Sunday School program for all ages
- Monthly older children's fellowship
- Annual Vacation Bible School
- Confirmation Classes
- Youth Ministry
- ChristCare small group ministry
- Sacrament Education for Children and Adults
- Disciple Bible Study
- Spiritual Life Retreats
- Fellowship Meals
Caring for One Another
We recognize that life can be both
very rewarding and also quite challenging. As such we are committed
to providing a community where those who are hurting can find comfort
and strength in their time of need. Through programs like Stephen
Ministry we are committed to sharing God's love with all who are
in need.
Servanthood
Saint Timothy's is committed to being
a servant church. From the beginning, our members have been involved
in activities such Habitat for Humanity, Dining
for Friends, CROP Walk for Hunger, Society
of Saint Andrew Hunger Projects, Canned Food Drives
for Greensboro Urban Ministry, serving meals at Potter's
House Soup Kitchen, and the Winter Walk for AIDS.
Members volunteered to prepare meals and cover the reception desk
at Beacon Place, a local residential hospice facility.
Our youth have traveled to mission projects in Wilmington
and Arizona, and members have taken two building
team trips to Bolivia.
One Great Day of Serving
We set aside this day to devote to serving our community in a variety
of ways, including visiting residents of a local nursing home leading
them in singing, collecting canned goods for the downtown emergency
food bank, and preparing and serving a meal for Urban Ministry.
Lunch at Urban Ministry
It takes willing hands to prepare and serve lunch at Potters
House where approximately 350-400 hungry people are served a free,
hot, nourishing meal every day. Volunteers cook the meal and clean
up. We encourage families to participate in this service. Kids (ages
7 to teenage) are a great help in serving meals to these guests.
Our church has committed to serve the fifth Sunday of the month.
Individuals may participate more often as needed.
Gleaning
In cooperation with the Society of Saint Andrew, our members participate
in potato drops and gleaning projects, such as picking blueberries
or other crops that would lie wasted in the field if not harvested
and passed on to organizations and individuals in need of food.
Refugee Assistance
Our church has sponsored a new start for a family from Cuba by helping
provide living space, spiritual support, language training, employment
help, guidance through complicated government processes, and many
other services to help them overcome obstacles to beginning a new
life in a new culture.
Brownie Scouts
Our Bridford House provides meeting space for a fine troop of Brownie
Scouts.
Emergency Assistance
By contributing to our pastors discretionary fund, members
give money to make possible one-time assistance people in crisis
situations. Our pastor also works with social workers to identify
the best resources for larger needs.
Other Opportunities for Servanthood...
There are many ongoing opportunities
to serve our fellow human beings at St. Timothy's. Many others occur
as needed during the year and will be posted in the newsletter.
